Silicon is widely used in the steel industry, foundry industry, and other industrial production. Silicon is indispensable deoxidizer in steel industry. In the steelmaking process, silicon is used to precipitate DNA and spread DNA. Ferrosilicon is also used as alloying constituent in steelmaking. Adding a certain amount of silicon steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of steel, improve the permeability of steel and reduce the hysteresis losses of transformer steel. Ordinary steel contains 0.15% ~ 0.35% silicon, structural steel contains 0.40%~ 1.75% silicon, tool steel contains 0. 30% ~ 1. 80% silicon, spring steel contains 0.40%~ 2.80% silicon, acid-proof stainless steel contains 3.40% ~ 4.00% silicon, heat resistant steel contains 1.00% ~ 3.00% silicon, and silicon steel contains 2% ~ 3% silicon or higher.
High silicon ferrosilicon or siliceous alloy is used as reducing agent in ferroalloy industry for producing low-carbon ferroalloy. Adding ferrosilicon in the cast iron can be used as inoculant for nodular cast iron, prevent forming the carbide, promote precipitation and spheroidizing of the graphite, and improve performance of the cast iron.
In addition, ferrosilicon powder can be used as suspended phase in the mineral processing industry, and in the electrode manufacturing can be used as coating of electrode. High silicon ferrosilicon can be used for the preparation of semiconductor pure silicon in electrical industry, and can be used in the manufacture of silicone in the chemical industry, etc.
In the steel industry, every tons of steel production consumes about 3 ~ 5 kg75 % ferrosilicon.
